Team WRT clinched the Sprint Cup teams' championship at Barcelona, its fourth title of the year in the series.
Team WRT took the Sprint Cup teams' classification at Barcelona with BMW M4 GT3 EVO cars, BMW said on 4 October. The result gives the team four titles this year in the series. The 2026 season ends with an Endurance race at Portimao on 17 October.
Team WRT has won the Sprint Cup teams' title in GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS. The Belgian team secured the classification in the closing Sprint Cup races of the season at Barcelona, with its BMW M4 GT3 EVO cars making strong comebacks in both races. BMW says this is the team's fourth title of the year in the championship. Earlier in the season it had already won the Silver Cup Sprint, Endurance and Combined classifications.
A hard first race
The weekend started badly for the BMW teams, with a difficult first qualifying session on Saturday morning. Race one ran in heavy rain, with numerous spins and accidents, and was stopped with a red flag halfway through. KPX Motorsport's #77 BMW M4 GT3 EVO, driven by David Pittard and Jop Rappange, rose from the rear of the field to eighth overall and took second place on the Gold Cup podium.
Weather then disrupted the schedule. The second qualifying session was cancelled, race two was moved to Sunday evening, and the grid was based on times from Friday's second free practice. Race two ran in dry conditions. Kelvin van der Linde moved up 15 places in the opening stage alone, and he and Charles Weerts finished sixth in the #32 car. Jordan Pepper and Amaury Cordeel reached eighth in the #31 car.
Retirements and the comeback
Max Hesse and Valentino Rossi were in contention for the top ten in the #46 car until a loose driver's door forced an unscheduled repair stop, and they finished 38th. In the Silver Cup, Matisse Lismont and Ignacio Montenegro retired from race two after Lismont was hit at the start. Augusto Farfus and Darren Leung finished fourth in class in both races in the Bronze Cup with a BMW M4 GT3 EVO for Paradine Competition.
Team principal Vincent Vosse said the team was delighted and proud, describing the Sprint Cup as a championship close to the team's heart. He said the team has now won the title twelve times from 14 participations, and that the Pitstop Challenge win, which goes to the strongest pit crew, meant a great deal. Pepper said the squad had not had the pace across the season, but executing everything else had moved them to the front.
The 2026 season ends on 17 October, when the final Endurance race takes place at Portimao in Portugal.
